GREYTOWN

DIGGER’S MARKET. A SUCCESSFUL ’RESULT. (“Times-Age” Special.) The members of the Greytown branch of the N.Z. Returned Soldiers’ Association held their “market day” in the Town Hall yesterday. Despite the fact that the weather being wet, there was a good attendance of purchasers at the various stalls during the afternoon. In the evening the hall was packed. Visitors being present from various towns in the Wairarapa. One of the chief attractions in the evening was the ’tug-of-war. The final was fought out between Brice’s team under D. Rewi and Trotman’s team under H. Nelson. In their first pull for the final both teams were well down to it, and held the centre mark till time was called. In the final pull the crowd was right on its toes, and both teams were right out. After three quarters of a minute Brice’s team managed to get their opponents off their balance, and amidst cheers were declared the winners. The various amusements and side shows did good business. A full list of the winners will appear in Monday’s issue. The function was a. decided success from every point of view. Anzac Day Service. The speaker sft the Greytown service on Anzac Day will be Mr A. Owen Jones, of Masterton. The service will take place in the Town Hall and His Worship the Mayor, Mr A. W. Horton, will preside.
