YOUNG FARMERS
ALFREDTON CLUB ACTIVITIES. SUCCESSFUL INITIAL STAGES. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Alfredton Young Farmers’ Club experienced a very successful period during the first six months of its existence, the annual meeting being held on March 6. The first meeting was held in September, 1938, when Mr Gray, Government Veterinarian, gave an interesting lecture on disease of livestock. At this meeting officers were elected for the committee.
In October, Mr Taviner, the local school teacher, gave a talk on his experiences in Raratonga. At the November meeting Mr N. Lamont showed a talkie picture. There were no meetings in December 1 or January. There were no meetings in December or January. In February Mr Heckler and Mr Napier gave lectures on the choice of Romney Marsh and Southdown rams for flock purposes. During the seven months in which the club has been operating the membership has risen from 16 to 22. The balance sheet shows a credit of 8s which is good for the short time in which the club has been in existence.
There was a fair attendance of members at the April meeting, over which Mr H. Edmonds presided.
Correspondence received from Mr N. Lamont included reference to a stock judging competition which is to be held on April 26 at the Wairarapa Training Farm. Teams were selected for. this contest.
A trial debate was held amongst members.
