POPPY DAY
GOOD RESPONSE RECORDED IN MASTERTON INTERIM RETURNS TOTAL £lBO. EXPECTATIONS OF INCREASE OVER LAST YEAR. The sale of poppies yesterday in Masterton and the Wairarapa generally was quite brisk throughout the day, and it is. anticipated, when final returns are available that last year’s record of £326 17s Id will be exceeded. An interim return of Masterton sales yesterday shows a total of £lBO, but by the time outstanding sales Jire accounted for it is expected that last year’s total of £194 will at least be reached if not exceeded. The sale in Masterton was under the direction of Mesdames T. Jordan (mayoress) and J. Caselberg, who were in charge of the W.F.C.A. stall, and Mesdames R. C. Drummond and J. H. Irving, who were stationed at a stall outside Messrs Hugo«and Shearer, Ltd. Other helpers were Mesdames L. W. Hunter, J. Forsyth, J. Bird, H. Falloon, C. R. Mabson, Cowper, J. Donald, G. Cowie, A. W. Reynolds, W. A. Michael, O’Connor, F. Cunningham, C. Cook, L. Moore, F. Reynolds, G. Holmes, A. L. Bennett, L. Hopkin, A. Kilgour, W. Free, Dickel, Baty, Morgan, Miller, K. Eastwood, R. Cunningham, C. Rogers, F. M. Whyte, F. Dean, Birch, J. Logan, H. H. Daniell; J. Gray, D. McKenzie, S. J. Munn, A. Williams, R. Beetham, Misses J. Betts, M. Mawley, M. McLaren, P. Jordan, L. Beetham, P. Sellar, M. Maunsell, P. Rutledge, H. Gordon, Y. Jones, M. Pither, P. Van Praagh, E. Prior, L. McPherson, C. Shearer, D. Hathaway, G. Hancox, J. Stevens, N. Boddington, B. Coleman, S. A donation of dahlias by Mr W. J. Barker realised 5s 6d. The committee of the R.S.A. wish to thank all ladies and others who assisted w'ith the sale, and also Messrs Hugo and Shearer and the W.F.C.A. for the loan of tables and flags and the use of the footpath in front of their shops, and Messrs Kenners Ltd for the use or a table. ■
