BENEFICIAL RAIN

PASTURES IN THE WAIRARAPA REJUVENATED. FIVE INCHES RECORDED AT MAURICEVILLE. Pastures and gardens throughout the Wairarapa are now thoroughly refreshed as the result of the rain of the past day or so. Up to 9 a.m. today the total fall since the rain commenced on Wednesday night was 2.57 inches, while at Mauriceville as much as 5.02 inches were recorded. On the East Coast 1.84 inches were measured at Marangai, Tinui, and 1.83 inches at Te Wharau.

The falls at various points in the district in the 24 hours ending at 9 a.m. today are: Masterton .98 inch; Mauriceville 2.25 inches; Tinui 1.59 inches (up to 7 a.m.); Te Wharau .83 inch.
