PERSONAL ITEMS

Mrs W. Lawry, of Pahiatua, has returned from a visit to Hastings. Mrs C. Pearcey, of Pahiatua, has as her guest Miss E. Barnes, of Waipukurau. Mrs A. Christiansen, of Palmerston North, and formerly of the Wairarapa, is the guest of her daughter, Mrs E. McCulloch, Pahiatua. Nurse Cummings, who has. been visiting her sister in Wanganui, is now the guest of her aunt, Mrs M. Diggins, Bentley Street, Masterton. Miss Ash, of Eastbourne, who has been on a motor tour of the North Island, is at. present the guest of Mrs John-McAnulty, of Eketahuna. Mrs J. Coradine, of Christchurch, is visiting Masterton and will later leave for Auckland to meet her son who is in the navy and who is returning to New Zealand.

Mr J. W. Collins, formerly Trade Commissioner in Canada, and Mrs Collins ,who are touring the North Island, were the guests of their daughter, Mrs L. Cross, of Church Street, during a visit to Masterton. Mr and Mrs Collins intend to take up their residence in Wellington.

Among the Eketahuna visitors to Wellington for the Young—Lowes wedding were Mr and Mrs Paul Page, Mrs T. M. Page, Mr and Mrs Guy Lewis, Mr and Mrs Walton White and Miss Ruth White, Mr and Mrs H. N. Kebbell, Mr and Mrs S. Tripe, Miss Joan Castle, Mr H. H. Godfrey, Miss Groves, Mr and Mrs Tredray.

At Rongomai on Saturday night a large crowd gathered in honour of the coming of age of Miss Edna McGlashan, last Saturday night. During the supper interval, Mr C. Davie, in asking Miss McGlashan to accept the many and beautiful presents, spoke of the latter’s popularity evidenced by the large crowd present and in speaking of her parents described them as very fine people. Miss McGlashan, following the drinking of her health, thanked those present, especially her parents, who had given her such a grand party. She then cut the beautiful iced cake made and decorated by her mother. Mr C. Judd proposed the health of Mr and Mrs McGlashan. Mr McGlashan suitably responded. .
