SITTING OF MAGISTRATE’S COURT. SEVERAL MOTORISTS FINED. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly sitting of the Magistrate’s Court wasjieid yesterday afternoon before Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., when the following cases were dealt with. In civil cases, judgment was given for plaintiff by default as follows: — Red Star Service Ltd. v. T. Matiaha, claim £6 3s 4d with costs £1 8s and solicitor’s fees 15s Gd; C. K. Goodin v. E. .Knott, claim 14s 6d, costs 10s. The police proceeded against W. G. Dick, driver of a motor lorry, on a charge of attempting to cross a railway line when a train was approaching. He was convicted and fined £3 with costs 10s. Archie J. Goodin for driving an unlicensed- motor vehicle was fined £2 with 10s costs. A. J. Goodin for driving a car without a licence was fined £1 with costs 10s. W. Foster, for riding a cycle without a light attached, was fined 10s and 10s costs. A. J. Peard, for failing to carry .a warrant of fitness, was fined £1 with lOs costs. Colin Rutserford, for driving a motor cycle without a driver’s licence 'was fined £1 with 10s costs. He was also fined £1 with 10s costs for riding a motor cycle without a silencer equipment. Edward Tyacke, for failing to have a warrant of fitness for a motor cycle was fined £1 with 10s costs.’ He was also fined £1 with 10s costs for riding the cycle without a licence. H. Cadwallader, for exceeding the speed limit of 30 miles per hour in Carterton borough, was fined £1 with 10s costs. Ali the above informations were laid by Traffic Inspector Nicholson. A. C. Crawford, Traffic Inspector, proceeded against Robert A. Donald for exceeding the speed limit of 30 miles per hour through the borough of Carterton. Defendant was fined £2 with 10s costs. Waiohine River. After a long spell of exceptionally dry weather heavy rain set in on the Tararua ranges on Tuesday evening. The result was a considerable fresh in the Waiohine River yesterday. Sporting. Mr L. A. Crawford passed through Carterton yesterday with Grand Blow en route for the East Coast Racing Club’s meeting which is being held'at Riversdale Beach on Saturday next. Grand Blow has accepted for the Awatoitoi Handicap, 7 furlongs; Blairlogie Handicap, 5 furlongs (lady riders); the Riversdale Cup, 1.1 miles, and the Orui Handicap, 1 mile.- Other Wairarapa horses are also competing at the meeting. Football. Mr E. McKenzie has been nominated by the Wellington Rugby Football Union as New Zealand selector and it is also nominating him as North Island selector. Several other unions are also nominating Mr McKenzie. Personal. Mr J. G. Stevens, who has been slaying with Mr and Mrs Stan Hill, Wakelin Street, left for Wellington yesterday. ROAD FLOODED. WATER OVER SWAMP ROAD. Heavy rain throughout the night has caused surface and river water from the Waiohine to flood part of Swamp Road, Carterton, near Mr H. Ticehurst’s residence. Fortunately it has not interfered with milk suppliers to the Dalefield Factory. At present there is no actual cause to fear a heavy flood, but if the rain continues to fall heavily for any length of time, there is a possibility of heavy flooding taking place at Dalefield. All the small creeks that have been dry for some time are running full. PARKVALE SOCIAL CLUB. ACTIVITIES COMMENCED. There was an exceptionally good attendance at the Parkvale Hall last evening, when the activities for the winter months of the Parkvale Social Club were commenced. Visitors were present from othei’ Wairarapa clubs and a most enjoyable evening was held. A Yankee table tennis tourney was played, the winners being Miss V. Ward of the Parkvale Social Club and Mr K. Brader of the Winter Sports Club, Masterton. Euchre was also played, the prizes for which were won by Mrs C. Jensen and Mr C._ Rayner of Parkvale. A dance followed, music for which was voluntarily supplied and a very pleasant evening was brought to a close after midnight. Supper was provided and enjoyed by all. During the evening final arrangements were made for a dance to be held on Monday evening. Card Tourney. The weekly card tourney in aid of funds for the Boy Scouts was held in St Mary’s Hall last evening. Owing to counter attractions and the wet night there was only a moderate attendance. The winners of prizes were: Ladies, Mrs P. Hodder 1, Mrs Ken Hodder 2; men, Mr Frank O’Keefe 1. Mrs Fred O’Keefe (acting) 2. The consolation prizes went to Mrs J. Lenihan and Miss G. Bradbury. Supper was provided after cards.
