ERRATIC BIDDING
AT DUNEDIN WOOL SALE
CROSSBREDS SELL FAIRLY WELL. MERINOS AND HALFBR.EDS DOWN (By Telegrapn—-Press Association.) DUNEDIN, This Day. About 24,000 bales' were offered at the fourth wool sale. A full bench of buyers, with the French operating within reasonable limits, had a heavier offering- of crossbreds than usual. A majority of the catalogues had particularly good sales for crossbreds, but fine wools showed the effect of severe winter conditions and -competitißn was very erratic. Only good style Crossbreds sold -easily. Shabby halfbreds ■and Merinos were neglected and -could be -quoted a halfpenny, probably more, back on the Christchurch sale.
There was a strong demand for skirtings and although prices showed a decline on the last sale here, compared with the last Christchurch sale Merino and heavy were unchanged, but crossbreds were quoted dearer by about a farthing to a halfpenny. Skirting were slightly better on Christchurch.
’ The top price was 14d for seven bales of super halfbred hogget, bought by a local firm. Buyers seemed afraid of not getting 'the wool home in the event of war. Passings were down about 10 per cent.
