CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS. AN OFFICIAL STATEMENT. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The following official statement was issued at the conclusion of yesterday's proceedings at the Pacific Defence Conference now sitting in Parliament Buildings:— “The conference was opened by his Excellency the Governor-General at 10 a.m. Subsequently the Rt. Hon. the Prime Minister was appointed chairman, and Mr Fraser deputy-chairman, Mr Savage welcomed the delegates, and speeches in reply were made by Sir Harry Batterbee and by Vice-Admiral Sir Ragnar Colvin, the leaders of the United Kingdom anti Australian delegations respectively. The conference then proceeded to consideration of its agenda. Discussion will be resumed tomorrow morning.” FIJI ADJUTANT. JOURNEY TO WELLINGTON BY AIR. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND. April 14. Boarding at noon the air liner for Wellington an hour or two after his arrival by the Matua, Major A. H. Stafford, Adjutant at Fiji, left to take part in the Pacific Defence Conference. He will be attached to the British delega-l lion, as Fiji is under the jurisdiction of I the Colonial Office.
