WOMEN'S INSTITUTE. - MEETING AT PARKVALE. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Parkvale Women’s Institute was held on Wednesday afternoon, Mrs N .Peacock presiding over a good attendance of members. It was decided to hold the annual “Husbands’ Night’’ in the Parkvale Hall on Friday, May 19. Mr C. Bannister, of Masterton, addressed the meeting and gave a very interesting talk upon the early history of the Wairarapa. He was listened to with close attention and he was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his address which was much appreciated by members. The Institute will be represented by Mesdames N.iPeacock and W. Adlam at the Wairarapa Federation meeting to be held in Masterton next week. Painful injuries were received by Mr J. J. Hadley in /the early part of this week. No one seems to know just how he was injured and he does not know himself what happened him, only that he may have been struck by a car. When found in Broadway he had very extensive cuts on. his face and one of his hands. Dr. Campbell attended Mr Hadley and he was removed to the Croydon Private Hospital, where his injuries were attended to. The cuts on his face necessitated several stitches being inserted, and besides an injured hand, he was badly bruised. His condition is not serious and he is improving. Perry Bros.’ Cirqys. "A wonderful show" was the opinion of the large audience that attended Perry Bos.’ Circus and Zoo which showed in Carterton last evening. There was not a dull moment in the whole of the lengthy programme submitted. There were many outstanding acts. The Flying Dunbars performed some very daring and dangerous feats from the dome of the circus tent. The performance of the sheep, dogs and horses, the daring feat of Madame Danada, the lady lion tamer who entered the lion’s cage with no other protection than an ordinary chair, and the many other feats by outstanding artists make up a brilliant programme. The circus will open in Masterton tonight. Personal. Mr lan Fisher, of Clareville, who has been on the staff of the Carterton G.P.O. for the past four years, has been transferred to the Mangawheka Post Office and left on Tuesday to take up his new duties. The many friends in Carterton and Masterton of Mr W. Johansen will be pleased to hear he was awarded second honours for tenor solo at the competitions held at Napier during Easter week. Church Service at Longbush. The Rev W. F. Stent, Vicar of St Mark’s Church, Carterton; will conduct a service at Longbush on Sunday afternoon.
