CONFERENCE OPENED IN WELLINGTON MEETING PLACE GUARDED STRICTLY. DELIBERATIONS TO LAST FOR A WEEK. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The conference convened by the New Zealand Government to discuss Pacific affairs, with particular reference to defence, opened this morning at Parliament Buildings, the opening address being delivered by the Gover-nor-General. Viscount Galway. The conference is expected to last for a week. • The top floor of the new wing of Parliament Buildings has been reserved for the conference, together with several rooms in the floor below. Every precaution is being taken to see that only authorised persons have access to the' precincts, the approaches being guarded by detectives and police orderincluding the secretariat and typists, the personnel of the conference consists cf sixty-six people.
