» PERSONAL ITEMS. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mr W. E. Fossctte, 8.A., headmaster of the Carterton District High School who has been appointed headmaster of the Wanganui Intermediate School in succession to Mr H. Rockfort, was appointed headmaster of the Carterton District High School during the last school term of 1938 and was before that headmaster of the Woodville District High School. During a comparatively short period the local school has lost two other prominent teachers in Messrs Ewing and L. D. Keedwell who have accepted transfers to other districts. Dairy Herds Reduced. The continual dry weather has brought about a position in which dairy farmers are compelled to reduce their herds through shortage of feed. Street Improvement. ,A commencement was made by the Carterton borough-workmen yesterday morning to tar and sand the footpaths in the business area from Belvedere Street to Victoria Street. Wedding. An interesting wedding will take place in Carterton on Wednesday, April 26, one of the contracting parties being a well known Carterton lady. Bowling. The two rinks that played in Palmerston North and the one that went to Nelson report having had a pleasant bowling holiday but without success. The members of the rinks returned to Carterton yesterday. Physical Culture. At a meeting held recently for the purpose of forming a physical and culture class in Carterton Mr G. A. Vincent was elected patron, Mr J. B. Lawrence president, and Mr O’Leary secretary. A further meeting is to be held shortly for the purpose of putting the class on a sound footing. Boy Scouts’ Card Tourney. The weekly card evening in connection with the Boy Scout Corps in Carterton was held in St. Mary’s Hall, last evening. There was a very large.attendance and a most enjoyable evening was spent. The prize winners were. Ladies, Mesdames J. Finn, 1; J. Lenlham, .2. Men, Mr H. Goodin, 1; Mrs Mellish (acting), 2. Supper Was handed round after the card tournament and enjoyed by all. BOWLING CLUB. SEASON TO CLOSE ON SATURDAY. The Cafterton Bowling Club’s green will be officially closed on Saturday next, when teams will be chosen by the president and vice-president. Games will commence punctually at 2 o’clock and members are asked to be punctual in attending to enable teams to be arranged. '
