BUILDING TRADESMEN
NINE ARRIVE IN MASTERTON FROM AUSTRALIA. IMMEDIATE WORK FOUND. Nine tradesmen from Australia, who arrived in Masterton this morning, were immediately placed in employment. According to Mr J. G. Hanaghan, placement officer, Masterton, there has been a shortage of joiners and carpenters in Masterton for the past 12 months. The arrival of these men from Australia has relieved the position to some extent, though there are still vacancies for eleven carpenters and one plumper. The nine arrivals from Australia comprised three carpenters and six joiners. There has been an acute shortage of joiners in New Zealand for the past twelve months, during which period it has been impossible to secure one anywhere in the Dominion. At the present time there are about thirty State houses in the course of erection in Masterton.
