YEARLING SALES
KEEN BIDDING AT SYDNEY. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright SYDNEY, April 11. Spirited bidding marked the opening of the yearling sales today. Top price, 1300 guineas, was paid by Mr R. Stewart, for a half-brother to Royal Chief by Phaleron Bay from the imported dam Modiste 11. A bay filly by Phaleron Bay out of Happv Returns fetched 300 guineas, Mr F. Williams paid 600 guineas for a Veilmond—Spear Belle colt, and Mr R. Cobden paid 400 guineas for a Hallmark —Spearette colt. Mr R. Webster paid 625 guineas for a Spearfelt —Amberline colt. A number of Chatham colts fetched from 110 to 325 guineas. A group of Christopher Robin colts were in demand and ranged from 110 to 500 guineas. , ~ The Buzzard’s stock commanded Imo" bidding. One such colt out of Gay Song was bought by Mr E. Lawson for 625 guineas, and another whose dam was Gold Frock, by Mr C. Wheeler for 600 guineas. Still another, whose dam was Calculate, was acquired by the New Zealander, Mr W. Devon, for 525 guineas. Wright Stephenson and Co. New Zealand, bought a Veilmond— Volume filly for 95 guineas.
