DEFENCE OF HOLLAND
PREMIER DEPRECIATES ALARM NO FEAR OF DIRECT ATTACK. SAFEGUARDS OF INDEPENDENCE & NEUTRALITY. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright (Received This Day, 10.53 a.m.) THE HAGUE, April 11. The Premier (Dr Colijn), in a broadcast address said: "There is no need for .alarm at the frontier measures, which do not indicate fear of a direct attack. Relations with all foreign Powers are good in our part of the world, but the latent state of tension is forcing us to consider the possibility ol sudden hostilities. Holland must show determination to defend her independence and maintain her neutrality under all circumstances. The army is at peace strength and we are not prepared to mobilise our entire defences quickly. Therefore we are taking further measures to allow of rapid mobilisation, these continuing as long as peace is not fully established.”
