SWIMMING

RECORDS RECOGNISED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. April 7. Ten national swimming records were recognised by the council of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association last night. They were: —Women's 220yds. backstroke, Miss W. Dunn, 3.19; 200 metres backstroke, Miss J. Macdonald, 3.0 2-5. Men: 200 metres breaststroke, W. H. Dyson, 2.59 2-5; 100yds. breaststroke, L. Smith. 1.15 3-5; 400 metres breaststroke. W. H. Dyson. G. 30 1-5. Intermediate boys: lOOds. backstroke, W. J. Hart, 1.12 1-5. Intermediate girls: 100yds. backstroke, J. Macdonald, 1.14 1-5; 220yds. freestyle, C. Garvin, 2.45 1-5. Junior boys: 75yds. backstroke, Mutu Laffley, 55 3-5. Junior girls: 50 yds. backstroke, Betty Owen, 36 1-5. The junior and intermediate championships for 1940 were allotted to the Otago centre. It was decided to hold the annual conference of centres on October 21 and 23, in Wellington.
