GOLF CLUE. ANNUAL MEETING. ("Times-Age” Special.) At the annual meeting of the Featherston Club, Mr J. W. Card (president) presided over a fair attendance of members. The annual report and balance sheet were read and adopted. The year ended with a credit balance of £2B 13s 2d, an increase for the year of £l6 6s 3d.
The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Mr J. W. Card (reelected); vice-presidents, Miss Card, Messrs D. H. S. Riddiford, G. S. Sharp, W. H. Rowles, H. R. Bloxam and N. C. C. Shepherd (all rb-elected); secretary, Mr J. B. Davis Allen (re-elected); (the chairman spoke of the capable and efficient services given to the club by the secretary and treasurer); auditor, Mr J. M. G. McKenzie; captain, Mr H. McCarty; deputy captain, Mr Fountain; management committee, Messrs R. Donald, G. O’Neale, H. Lovegrove, and M. Benton; green committee, Messrs J. B. Davis and H. Lovegrove; selector and handicap committee, captain, vicecaptain and secretary. Two new members were elected. The subscription was fixed the same as last year, men £3, reducible to £2 10s; ladies, £1 ss, reducible to £1 Is, the reduction to apply to subscriptions paid by the 30th June; honorary members,'men, £1 ss; ladies, 10s 6d, juniors, 7s 6d. The opening day was fixed for April 22. A working bee was arranged to prepare the greens before opening day. On the motion of Mr Jeffrey seconded by Mr Allen, it was decided that club .prizes' should be trophies to be presented by the club instead of orders, and the trophies to be of the same value as last year. It was decided that residents of the town must be members or honorary members to use the course. The opening day event will be a foursome, and it was decided to donate the proceeds to the Plunket Queen Carnival Blue Queen. It has been arranged for the Tui Glen Club to visit Featherston on May 7, and for the visit to be returned in September. Personal Items. Mr. Vernon, who has been .visiting Mr A. Robbins, “Poi Poi,” has returned to Auckland. Mr and Mrs W. Williams, Carterton, are visiting their daughter, Mrs R. W. Fuge, of Kaiwaiwai, for the Easter holidays. ■ Easter . Euchre Party. There'was a very good attendance at the Easter euchre party which was held by the Home and School Association on Tuesday night in the Anzac' Hall. The prizewinners were: Ladies, Mrs W. Mellish 1, Mrs W. Williams 2. Mrs Hall 3. Men, Mr M. Jepson 1, Mr Strang 2, Mr J. Saba 3. Ladies’ Guild. The members of the Kahautara-Pihautea-Kaiwaiwai Ladies’ Guild held their ordinary meeting on Tuesday afternoon in the Kahutara Hall, when many members from the Featherston and Western Lake guilds were present. Mrs Tye, of Wellington, was the speaker and gave an address on “Homie and Children,” which was much appreciated. Miss J. Dennis, gave a piano solo and also a recitation, and Miss Harvey a tap dance, all the items being much enjoyed. ( Mrs Ashdown and Mrs Cuff were the winners of the competitions. A dainty afternoon tea was provided. Fire Brigade Meeting. At the monthly meeting of the Featherston Fire Brigade, Superintendent Tidswell presided over a good attendance. A note of thanks for the Brigade’s expression of sympathy in their recent bereavement was received from Mrs J. Workman and family. Messenger Tom Browne, upon coming of age, was elected a fireman. Deputy-Superintendent Boston, who is a vice-president of the U.D.F.8.A., was elected delegate for the Easter Conference at Palmerston North. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to the tradespeople and others who assisted to make the recent picnic such a success. A motion to have two monthly meetings of the brigade was lost on a ballot. Deputy-Superintendent Boston reported on the Conference held at Wanganui and on the demonstrations. Supt. Tidswell, on behalf of the brigade. thanked Deputy-Supt. Boston for his comprehensive report. ■ During the weekend the Fire Brigade held a two-man coupling event for the challenge cup presented by an anonymous donor. The cup was won by Boston and Browne, time 32 2-ssecs. Pulford and Sadler obtained second place, time 47 4-ssecs. Chalmers and Anderson and Tidswell and Habib tied for third place, 63 3-ssecs. The time of Boston and Browne was a very fine performance. Subsequent to the meeting a social gathering was held, at which the guest of honour was ex-Superintendent >C. R. Skipage, who at a previous meeting had intimated that he was retiring as an active member and had unanimously been elected an honorary life member. Superintendent Tidswell stated that he and the members of the brigade deemed it a privilege to meet to do honour to such a valued officer as Mr Skipage, who had given more than half a lifetime’s service and could look back on this with pleasure. Mr Skiage asked the brigade to accept a trophy for annual competition on conditions which they could frame later. The trophy, a handsome challenge cup. was accepted with thanks by Supt. Tidswell on behalf of •he brigade, and the gathering heartily toasted Mr Skipage. Supt. Tidswcll handed Mr Skipage a 2 years’ gold bar, marking the completion of 39 years’ active service, during twenty of which he had been Superintendent.
