SEVERAL HOURS FALL OF ROCKS. DEATH FROM INJURIES. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, April 5. After lying under a fall of rock 86 feet underground for several hours today, Daniel Wheeler, aged G 4, a married man. died of injuries in the Frankton Hospital. Mr Wheeler was working on a rock drive 30 feet below the surface in a gold pijne op the Shotoyer, near Queppstcwp. when a fall of rock crushed ippi at 11 o’clock- A sop who was at the mouth of the mine assembled a gang of 2Q men who (dug frantically to .release Mr Wheeler, who was still alive. Anotner small fall' occurred, interrupting rescue operations, but Mr Wheeler was released at 4.45' p.m. still alive, but severely crushed about the body. He was taken to hospital where lie died at G. 45 p.rn.
