Mrs C. Burnard, Melling, will spend Easter in Masterton. Mr and Mrs J. Handyside, of Masterton, will spend Easter in Napier. Mrs E. Winkler, of Makairq, is spending a holiday at Blenheim. Mrs A. Beckett, of Pownall Street, Masterton, is a visitor to Christchurch. Miss D. Kemp, of South Road, Masterton, will be an Easter visitor to Napier.
Mrs M. Willis, of Sydney, is visiting her daughter, Mr A. H. Ellmers, of Kohinui.
Miss Betty Coleman, of Masterton, is visiting Mrs McClymont, Grey Lynn, Auckland. Mrs H. j. McKenzie and family left Carterton yesterday for Napier when they will spend holidays. Miss Grace Tooby, of Essex Street, Masterton, will leave tomorrow to spend a holiday at Christchurch and Kaikoura.
Miss Norma Jordan* of Greytown, who has been the guest of Mrs Ivan Algie, Masterton Road, Pahiatua, has returned to her home.
Mrs Grimmer, senr, of Garrison Street, Carterton, left yesterday for Palmerston North where she will spend the Easter Holidays with her son. Miss Rosamund Drummond, Masterton, has left for Dunedin, where she will represent Victoria University College in the annual university tournament.
The many Wairarapa friends of Mrs J. Little (formerly Miss Audrey Williams), of Hui Hui, North Canterbury, will learn with deep regret of the accidental death of her two-year-old son, through the drinking of some lysol. Miss Rene Taylforth, whose marria'ge will take place shortly, was the guest of honour at a gift evening given by her bridesmaids-to-be at the residence of Mrs J. G. Dagg on Tuesday. The guests were entertained with games and competitions and the bride-to-Le was the recipient of many beautiful gifts. There was a very large attendance at a social tendered on Monday in the Morison’s Bush Hall, to Miss June Goodin, of Carterton, and Mr Darcy Tilyard, who are shortly to be married. Dancing and euchre were indulged in. A very fine selection of parcels was received, and Mr Tilyard suitably replied on behalf of Miss Goodin. The gathering was a most enjoyable one. A large gathering arranged to farewell the president of the Woodville Women’s Institute, Mrs N. M. Burnett, who is also editor of the official organ of the institute, before her departure for England to attend the Country Women’s Conference as a delegate from New Zealand, took place in the Women’s Institute Hall in Woodville. Mesdames Schroder and Wright sang solos and duets which were much appreciated. After speeches and presentations to Mrs Burnett, games, dancing and supper brought a very enjoyable evening to a close. A very pleasant gathering was held in the Y.W.C.A. rooms, Wellington, last Monday night, when the Wellington branch of the Solway Old Girls’ Association held its monthly meeting. Mrs H. Longuet and Mrs H. Morton were the hostesses for the evening, at which they entertained with games. Later, over supper, many old acquaintances were renewed. It was decided that meetings .would be held regularly on the first Wednesday of every month, the next meeting being on May 3. Among those present were: Mrs H. Rix-Trott, Mrs L. Avann, Misses T. Wright, P. Beale, D. Murphy, M. Gellatly, Z. Mexted, K. Smith, P. Sandilands, M. Mazengarb, M. Nimmo, M. Ince, M. Prebble, J. Murphy, N. Murphy, F. Wilson. ENGAGEMENT. JOBLIN—ARMSTRONG. Mr and Mrs W. I. Armstrong, “Maungaru,” Masterton, announce the engagement of their eldest daughter, Eleanor Louise, to Vernon William, elder son of Mr and Mrs F. W. Joblin, “Waiomio,” Gladstone, Wairarapa.
