NEW ZEALAND BLIND
SMALL INCREASE IN NUMBER. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, April 4.4 An increase of only five in the number of blind people in New Zealand reported to the New Zealand Institute for the Blind occurred during the past year, according to the report of the acting-director which was received at the annual meeting of contributors. The report said that the number of blind people registered was 1185 and the number of people at the institute was 177. Subscriptions for the year showed a decrease of £6OO, being £4,683 as against £5,297 last year. Bequests for the year totalled £14,075 against £6,736 for 1938. There were, however, frequently life beneficiaries in such bequests, so that in many cases the institute received no benefit from them for a long time.
