PLUNKET SOCIETY’S CARNIVAL. SUPPORT FOR BLUE QUEEN. (“Times-Age" Special.) A meeting of the supporters of the Featherston Plunket Society’s Blue Queen, Miss Anne Fellingham, was held at the residence of Mrs G. S. Sharp to discuss the progress made and to go into the question of activities in connection with the campaign. Mr G. Harkness presided over a large and enthusiastic gathering. Suggestions, for card parties, socials, dances, competitions, fun fairs, shop days, etc, were forthcoming. The following convenors of sub-com-mittees were elected: Publicity, Mr A. McLeod; social and cards, Mrs. Chas Rea; dances, Miss J. Tutbury; competitions, Mrs R. Skipage; shop days, Mrs J. G. McKenzie; music and entertainments, Mrs G. Harkness. Numerous competitions were suggested, final arrangements for these being left in the hands of Mrs R. Skipage. It is proposed that the following functions be held: Saturday, April 15, Gala Day; procession in afternoon to precede football match with a “hard up” dance in evening in Mr Kelly’s woolshed, Underhill Road. April 14, Cake Stall. May 12, Shop Day. May 22, Dance at the Anzac Hall. Mrs J. G. McKenzie was congratulated on the splendid results obtained in connection with the cake stall held on Friday last. Apologies were received from Mr and Mrs Lawson, Miss McTaggart. Misses O. and M. McLeod, Mr and Mrs' Shepherd, Mrs Lowell and Mr J. Thurston. On the motion of the chairman a vote of thanks was passed to Mrs Sharp for her kindness in allowing the meeting to be held in her home. Personal. Mrs Marshall Barry is a Gisborne visitor to Featherston, and is stayingwith Mrs E. Barry, Bell Street. Cricket Club Dance. The Featherston' Cricket Club will held their annual dance in the Anzac Hall on Saturday night. Fire Brigade Events. During the weekend the Fire Brigade held a two-man coupling event for the challenge cup presented by an anonymous donor. The cup was won by Boston and Browne, time 35 2-ssec. Pulford and Sadler obtained second place, time 47 4-ssec. Chalmers and Anderson and Tidswell and Habib tied for third place, 63 3-ssec. The time of Boston and Browne was a very fine performance. An exhibition by two members of the Carterton Brigade was given, their time being 34 3-ssec, 4-5 of a second better than the cup winners. Carterton won the U.F.B. Demonstration at Wanganui recently. The cup is to be competed for annually.
