OUR JEAN COMES ON RAPIDLY

(By

“The Cynic.”)

During recent weeks the Vaals filly Our Jean has come on rapidly and her displays at Te Aroha were highly encouraging. She is going along in excellent style at Takanini and it is expected that she will be a Champagne Stakes candidate at the autumn meeting at Ellerslie. Splendid Form. The splendid form shown by Round Up when he won the Ohinemuri Cup proves that the Lord Quex gelding, is now at the top ..of his form. He is likely to be hard to beat, despite increased weight, in the chief events at Ellerslie at Easter. Since entering F. Smith’s stable at Takanini, Round Up has won £5035 for his owner, Mr T. Impey. Encouraging, Silver Quex is an Ellerslie-trained filly who is doing her work in encouraging style. A hack plate winner at the Auckland Midsummer meeting, she has not started since, but she will be in good order at Easter. A three-year-old full sister to Round Up, she is likely to be a candidate for the Great Northern Oaks. Very Fit. Although beaten over nine furlongs at Paeroa, Royal Bachelor made a bold showing for over a mile. He is a topnotcher in bad going, and being very fit at present, should be kept in mind when the rain comes. HAWKE’S _BAY RACES CHIEF EVENT TO SIEGMUND. SPRINT TO BLACK THREAD. (By Telegrapn—Press Association.) HASTINGS, April 1. The Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club’s autumn meeting concluded in warm, sunny weather. The principal event was won by Siegmund, a Great Autumn Handicap candidate, and the sprint race fell to Black Thread. The adjourned inquiry into crowding which took place in the two-year-old race on the first day was concluded on Saturday, when it was found that there was some doubt as to which of two horses caused the crowding and interference from which Regale was the principal sufferer.
