PERSONAL ITEMS. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mr Douglas Kilney left by motor car on Sunday for a three weeks’ holiday at Tologa Bay. Mrs Hemi and family and Mr and Mrs H. Clark and family left on Sunday on their return to their homes at Tologa Bay. Mr and Mrs Rangi Piripi and family are also visiting the Tologa Bay district. Mr and Mrs W. Watson left for Christchurch on Thursday for the funeral of Mr Watson’s sister-in-law. The many friends of Mr Ludic Watson in this district will regret to hear of the death of his wife which occurred at Lyttelton on Wednesday, after a short illness. Mr and Mrs Smith, of Auckland, who have been visiting the South Island, are at present staying with their son. Mr Harold Smith. Mrs Cowan, and Miss Piripi, who were on a short visit to Feilding, have returned home. Mrs R. Rangi has entered the hospital for a minor operation. The Misses Jean and Sue McDougall spent the weekend with their father, Mr R. McDougall. Mrs W. Hume is the guest of Mrs S. Cundy, Featherston. Mr Clifford Hume has taken up his residence at Martinborough. ' * Miss Lena Matenga is staying with friends at Kohunui. Mr and Mrs Tom Smith and Mr A. Piripi, Wanganui, are visiting relatives in this district Dog Trial Successes. Messrs Neil and Noel Hume were most successful in the dog trials at Martinborough recently. The latter,' with his dog Bob, annexed the maiden head and ring, and the head, pull and guarding and was fourth in the open head. He also v/on the Jennings Cup. Neil Hume was successful in'the open huntaway with Dan. These two young enthusiasts are to be congratulated on their success. A Danger Spot. The Native settlement at Kohunui has been theiscene of many narrow escapes from serious injury to children from speeding motor cars. Recently the Wairarapa Automobile Association has had erected sign posts at each end of the settlement and the Association is to be commended in their efforts to protect the lives of adults and children in the settlement. GOLF CLUB. SEASON OPENED.
The official opening of the golf season took place on Saturday. There was a large attendance of players and visitors. Owing to the continued dry spell the greens were not at their best, but the fairways were in good, order. Judging by- the interest taken the season should be a most successful one. A stroke competition was played, the ladies’ match being' won by Mrs Herangi with a net' score of 69 and the men’s match by B. McMaster. Several members who did not take an active interest in the game son have signified their intention of playing regularly this year. A prominent Palmerston player, who. has competed successfully in tournaments in the Manawatu district, has joined the cjub. It is also reported that several new members have been enlisted. The eclectic competition played by the ladies last season was won by Mrs Carter with Mrs Tikao second. Owing to the Easter holidays there will be no competitions next Saturday. .
