HOMING PIGEON CLUB
YOUNG BIRD RACES. The Masterton Homing Pigeon Club fl etv two young bird races recently, a flock race from Waipawa, 85 miles, and a special race from Taumarunui, 150 miles airline distance. Forty-six birds from Waipawa were liberated in fine weather, but encountered a southerly with heavy rain showers on the way. The first six placings for Club points were:—W. J. Miller’s “Night Star,” 2hrs 49mins 7secs 1; C. J. Douglas’s “Young Griffo,” 2hrs 49mins 47secs 2; F. Harding's “Gay Blue,” 2hrs 50mins 19secs 3; W. Steer’s “Blue Scot,” 2hrs 50mins 44secs 4; W. Steer’s “Red Rufus,” 2hrs 51mins 9secs 5;. C. J Douglas’s “Royal Mystery,” 2hrs 51mins 14secs 6. In the race from Taumarunui on Saturday for the Neil Harding Challenge Cup, twenty-nine birds were liberated. They must have flown into very heavy weather, as only two homed on the day, being on the wing for six and a half hours, and showing the effects of the hard going. The result of the race was: —C. J. Douglas’s “Dewar” 1; C. J. Douglas’s “Dixie” 2. Time, 6hrs 24mins 3secs.
