AN OFFICIAL EXPLANATION

RECORDED INSTEAD.

TECHNICAL FAULT CAUSES BREAK IN RELAY.

By Telegraph—Press . Association —Copyright. (Received This Day, 1.10 p.m.) BERLIN, April 2.

It is officially explained that Herr Hitler’s speech was not broadcast as the time was unlikely to draw a large audience, it being asserted that most people would be enjoying being outdoors at 5.30 p.m. on a fine afternoon. Therefore, it was recorded and the record replayed when the majority of people were having dinner. The official version did not differ from the recordings. Officials insist that the breaking off of the relay to the United States was due to a technical fault or mistake. DANGER CONTINUES. WHILE FORCE POLITICS REMAIN. (Received This Day, at Noon.) LONDON, April 2. The Deputy Leader of the Labour Party, Mr Arthur Greenwood, commenting on Herr Hitler's speech, said it did not offer any constructive suggestion for European settlement. War danger would continue to exist while strategy based on force and sudden action continued to wreck the nerves of the smaller European countries.
