TENNIS SEASON CLOSED

ENJOYABLE GATHERING AT MEMORIAL PARK. YANKEE TOURNAMENT WINNERS. Favoured with ideal weather and perfect playing courts a large gathering of players enjoyed some excellent tennis on Saturday afternoon when the Memorial Lawn Tennis Club held its official closing day. Messrs J. A. Kennedy and B. Hurley, with the assistance of committee members ably controlled a Yankee tournament which was played.

Afternoon tea was served, after which Mr J. A. Kennedy, in the unavoidable absence of the president (Mr J. T. "Jameson) . and the club captain (Mr L. T. Wylie) presented the trophies won during the season, the names of the prize-winners having been published in the “Times-Age” recently. \ In congratulating the winners Mr > Kennedy referred to their excellent play, particularly mentioning the consistent play of the winner of the men’s singles. Mr L. Connolly.

The results of the Yankee tournament were as follows: —Semi-finals: M. Syron and Miss Rudd lost to B. Hurley and Miss Wylie, 3/6; C. J. Carle and Miss J. Cairns lost to Marchbank and Miss N. Richards, 5/6; final, Marchbank and Miss N. Richards beat B. Hurley and Miss Wylie, 6/0. The courts will be open for play until after Easter, when top-dressing operations will commence.
