WEDDING

BRIGGS—SMITH. ("Times-Age” Special.) The Eketahuna Methodist Church was very prettily decorated with ’pink and white asters and lilies for the marriage on Wednesday of Nancy Overton, only daughter of Mr and Mrs S. H. Smith, Rongokokako, with Francis Edward Briggs, son of the late Mr Briggs of Hull, Yorkshire, and Mrs B. Briggs (Whakatane). The bride was attired in a gown of heavy white lace over ivory satin. The gown was closely moulded to hetfigure with a high sleeve line and a long full train. The tulle veil was embroidered in the same pattern as hetfrock and she carried a bouquet of white tiger lilies, cactus dahlias and fern with silver ribbon streamers. The bridal party stood under a white wedding bell. Miss M. Wilson was the organist and played Mendelssohn’s Wedding March as the bride entered the Church, after which the hymn “Oh, Perfect Love,” was sung by the large number present. The bride's only attendant was Miss Marion McAnulty, who wore a ground length frock of stiffened lace of a vivid green shade. The front of the bodice was rucked and caught at the neckline with a large antique silver brooch and the elbow-length puff sleeves were stiffened. A girdle of lighter and darker green was a finishing touch. The silk taffeta underskirt and hat with its wide transparent brim were of the same shade as the frock and a pretty bouquet of deep pink charm dahlias and zinnias with fern and tied with pastel shaded streamers was carried.

The bridegroom was supported by his brother, Mr R. Briggs, as best man.

The duties of usher were carried out by Mr J. Payne (Rongokokako). At the reception held in the Odd Fellows’ Hall, Mr and Mrs Smith received their guests and the bride and bridegroom were the recipients of hearty congratulations. Mrs Smith wore a wine-berry coat over a frock of the same shade, the coat collar being of stamped gold satin and the hat, also matching, having an ostrich plume and gold ornament. Mrs Briggs, the bridegroom’s mother, wore a floral frock with a saxe blue ground and hat to match. The future home of Mr and Mrs Briggs wm be at Whakatane.
