MAURICEVILLE

FAREWELL GATHERING. WORTHY SETTLERS HONOURED. ("Times-Age” Special.) . A pleasant function took place in the Kopuaranga Hall on Tuesday evening, when the settlers gathered to bid farewell to Mr and Mrs Alex Donald, and Mr L. Donald, who are leaving the district. Speaking on behalf of the settlers, Mi- C. C. Jackson referred in glowing terms to the splendid manner in which the guests of honour had so generously helped in the district during their 15 years’ residence. As a small token of the esteem in which they were held, Mr Jackson asked Mr and Mrs" Donald to accept a silver tea service from the settlers, and wished them the best of luck and prosperity in the future. Mr L. Donald was presented with a leather dressing case.

Mr C. P. Jarrett spoke of the support given by Mrs Donald and Mr Laurie Donald to the Tennis Club, and asked them to accept small gifts of appreciation from the club members. Mr W. Bird referred to the splendid help given by Mr Donald and Mr L. Donald to the Mauriceville Sports Club, of which they havcj bothTieen enthusiastic supporters. Mrs R. Miller, as chairwoman of the School Committee, thanked Mr Donald for his generous help in school matters, and Mr L. Donald for his untiring services as secretary. Mrs Miller also presented Mrs Donald with a gift from the congregation of the Presbyterian Church, of which Mrs Donald has been organist number of years. The gifts and the speakers remarks were suitably acknowledged. The guests were accorded musical honours, after which dancing continued until midnight. Many visitors were present from Mauriceville, Masterton and other districts. Personals. Mrs J. McDougal and Miss J. Campbell. Auckland, are the guests of Mrs I. D. Cameron. Miss M. and P. Nicolason are spending their holidays touring in Auckland and Hawke’s Bay districts.
