EKETAHUNA

WOMEN’S DIVISION.

SUCCESSFUL SHOP DAY.

(“Times-Age” Special.)

The Shop Day held at Eketahuna by the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was very successful there being excellent business done by the capable ladies in charge. The shop was in charge of Miss A. E. Anderson and Mrs C. Welch.

A mystery parcel competition organised by Mrs Welch created a great deal of interest and added considerably to the takings. The Rest Home and the Community Chest, for which the shop day was held, will benefit to a considerable extent.

Hockey Association Wound Up.

At a meeting held at Pahiatua it was decided to wind up the Bush Hockey Association.

Mr A. N. Suter, who presided, said that at the recent annual meeting at Eketahuna, such poor support had been forthcoming that it had been thought advisable to call this meeting to see if it was worth while carrying on with hockey in the Bush. If the association were disbanded it was suggested that cups and trophies be returned to the donors.

Mr S. Worboys moved that the association be wound up, and that arrangements be made for the clubs concerned to get into the nearest association. This was seconded by Mr J. Eeale and carried.

The secretary was recommended to get in. touch with the Manawatu and Wairarapa associations immediately, making inquiries as to the possibility of Hastwells and Woodville respectively joining up with them. The Bush Hockey Association was inaugurated as a ladies’ association in 1920, the men’s portion being incorporated in 1930, and in the following year it was granted affiliation with the New Zealand Hockey Association. At the best period in its career, the Bush Association comprised 20 clubs, 11 men’s and nine women’s.
