GOLF SEASON

OPENED BY MASTERTON CLUB BIG GATHERING OF MEMBERS TODAY. LINKS IN EXCELLENT ORDER. The official opening of the Masterton Golf Club’s season attracted a very large attendance of members to the Lansdowne links this afternoon where a mixed foursome was played in pleasant weather. The links were in excellent order, and good scores should be returned. The president of the club, Mr G. W. Sellar, extended a welcome to new and old members and trusted that they would have an enjoyable season’s golf. He also welcomed the new professional, Mr K. G. Williams, and he asked members to take advantage of his services and also to assist by procuring their golf requisites from his shop. A special Word of praise was due to the clubhouse custodian for the excellent way in which be kept the clubhouse. Referring to the season’s activities, Mr Sellar said that lists for the Easter tournament and the President’s Trophy competition had been placed ch the men’s notice board, and all members wishihg to take part in either were asked to fill in their names. A start would be made on April 22 with the President’s trophy Competition. The committee had decided to hold a mixed fotirball competition on Sunday* April 22, when it was hoped that there would be a full muster of members. If the eVent was a success further competitions would be held throughout the season. An open competition would be held on Sunday, April 23, which would be open to all golfers. Members were asked to remember the dates as the official programme was not yet ready for printing. The question of a visit from <he two Australian professionals, Von Nida and Clements on April 18 was mentioned by Mr Sellar, who asked members to express an opinion as to whether they wished a visit from the Australians. The committee had considered tne question of carrying out improvements to the course and had had expert advice on the matter. It had been decided, however, not to proceed with the matter this season.
