ELABORATE EXCHANGE SYSTEM FOR TECHNICIANS. PICKED MEN TO BE SENT TO ENGLAND. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. CANBERRA, March 30. It is announced today that an important phase of Australia’s military plane construction plan will be the establishment of an elaborate exchange system for technicians. Probably 80 or 100 picked engineers will be sent to the works in England where the Beaufort planes, which will later be produced in Australia,'are being made. The idea is to create a trained corps of aeroplane engineers in Australia who will help in the general objective of making Australia self-contained in civil and military aircraft construction. NATIONAL REGISTER « TO BE KEPT UP TO DATE. COST NEARLY £lOO,OOO. (Received This Day. 11.10 a.m.) CANBERRA, March 31. The Minister of Defence, Mr Street, said the action was to be taken by the Government to keep tne national register up-to-date. The cost of compiling the register was expected to be nearly £lOO.OOO. More union leaders expressed opposition to the Federal Cabinets decision to compile a compulsory register of man power. The secretary of the New South Wales Trades and Labour Council, Mr R. King, said: “A compulsory national register is the first step towards industrial conscription.”
