CARTERTON
BOWLING. UPPER HUTT & CARTERTON. (“Times-Age” Special.) On Saturday next six rinks of Upper Hutt bowlers will play a game against Carterton on the local green. The match will commence at 2 o’clock and those chosen to represent Carterton are asked to be punctual. The teams will appear in tomorrow’s issue. Funeral of Mrs Ashton. The funeral of,the late Mrs Beatrice Ella Ashton took place yesterday when there was a large and representative cortege. Many beautiful wreaths were sent, showing the high esteem in which deceased was held. Before the funeral moved off from the residence of her son-in-law, Mr W. F. Hooper, Lincoln Road, a short service was held by the Rev R. Byers, of St Andrews Presbyterian Church, who also conducted the service at the graveside. The pallbearers were, Messrs A Conwell, W. F. Hooper (sons-in-law), W. Jensen, G. Brown, Allah Sewell and L. Archer (grandsons). Personal Items. Mr B. R. Rayner, who has been spending a holiday in the South Island, returned to Carterton yesterday. He travelled most parts of the Island as far as the Bluff. Mr E. Sayer, of Dalefield, who has been on the staff of the Dalefield Dairy Factory ever since he commenced his working career, has resigned, and will leave shortly to take up a new position in Wellington. Football Match. The Wellington senior team will play ,their annual fixture against Carterton on the Showgrounds, 'jCarterton, on Eastei 1 Saturday.
