OLD MAORI WORKSHOP

DISCOVERED IN MOUNTAINS

(By Telegraph—Press Association.)

TE AROHA, This Day.

There has been discovered on the Ruakaka-Te Aroha mountainside by Charles Jennings, a local resident, a Maori workshop of early period probably over one hundred years ago. The contents include sixty stone adzes both in the rough and in a finished state, also hammers, chisels, axes and weapons of war. The locality..was occupied before Te Aroha was formed by the Ngatimaru tribe and the tools show high grade Maori craftsmanship. The workshop is cut out of mountain hillside rock and is of fairly large dimensions.
