FIGHTING IN THE AIR TOLL OF ITALIAN AVIATORS. OVER 700 LOYALIST CRAFT BROUGHT DOWN. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. (Received This Day, 11.40 a.m.) ROME. March 27. An official statement says that 174 members of the Italian Air Force were killed in Spain up to March 22 and Italians brought down 730 Loyalist aircraft to the same date. ALICANTE BOMBED REPUBLICAN FRONT BROKEN AT TOLEDO. MANY PRISONERS TAKEN. (Received This Day, 12.25 p.m.) BURGOS, March 27. Co-operating with the army the Nationalist Air Force bombed Alicante. Troops broke the Republican front at tne bridgehead of Toledo, 50 miles from Madrid, and took many prisoners. On the Andalusian front the Nationalists advanced to Estremadura. ORDERS TO RETREAT LOYALISTS ON ALMADEN FRONT. MILITANT GROUP DISOBEYS. '(Received This Day, 1.10 a.m.) BURGOS, March 27. It is officially stated that the Nationalists have occupied Almaden, also Villaneuva de Cordoba. Their success may be partly due to a reported instruction from Valencia to loyalists on this front to retreat without bloodshed. Only one militant group disobeyed these orders. SENOR MIAJA. REASON FOR VISIT TO VALENCIA. (Received This Day, 1.10 p.m.) VALENCIA, March 27. Senor Miaja’s visit does not imply his permanent departure from Madrid, despite the absence of official announcements. It is believed to be due to the necessity of consulting operative departments of the Government about arranging for handing over the Republican zone to General Franco.
