RED STAR FOOTBALL CLUB
ANNUAL REPORT. The following is the annual report of the Red Star Football Club for 1938: —Your committee has pleasure in presenting the annual report and balance sheet for the season 1938. Although not such a successful season as the previous one, the teams acquitted themselves in a creditable manner. The form displayed by the younger members of the. club augurs well for the future. We have pleasure in stating that the club has a credit balance of £35 3s lid. This credit balance is very gratifying and is due in a large measure to the untiring efforts of the officials, members and social committee. We entered three teams in the competitions—senior, junior and third grade. Some of the displays given by these teams were very creditable and with improvement we are looking forward to the club reaching the highest peak in the coming championship competitions. We would like particularly to .congratulate our third grade team on some of their excellent displays. The football shown by them was of a very high standard and if these boys reproduce this form in future years the club should have good prospects of again annexing the senior championship. The senior team coached by Mr. D. Stewart, finished runners-up in the championship qnd we extend our Congratulations to the coach and members of this team. The juniors, coached by Mr W. Green, although not so successful as in the previous year, should again reach a high standard with recruits from the lower grades. The third grade team, coached by Mr. P. Prescott, as already mentioned, played bright football and finished runners-up in their division. The following players are to be congratulated on gaining representative honours:—Senior: R. Howard, E. Cross, G. Duff, W. Peterson, H. Ewington,'D. O’Connor, G. Barr, R. Johnston, F. Henson, C. Stewart, N. Harding and P. Clarke. Junior: B. Howard and G. McCullough.
The trophies presented during the season were won by the following players: — Junior: Mr. G. Vincent’s trophy, won by H. Ellison, for most improved forward; Mr. W. Green’s trophy, won by W. Swain for best forward. Third Grade: Misses Vincent and Prescott’s trophy, won by N. Rippon for most improved back; Mr. A. Sturgeon’s trophy, won by C. Reid for most consistent. back; “Anonymous Donor,” won by J. Osborne, for best forward; Mr. R. Milne’s trophy, won by H. Corlett for consistent play and unselfishness.
It is with deep regret that we have to record the deaths of the late Messrs Ted Welch, Bob Church, C. A. Ewington ' and Tom Vangioni, who were staunch members and officials of the club. The dub could not let the opportunity go by. without expressing the appreciation, of the valuable services rendered by Mr Fred Clarke, who had been for a number of years secretary of the club, and it is with regret we have to record his departure from the district, the club thereby losing a very valuable member. Our thanks are due to the Ladies’ Committee for their valuable assistance during the season; to the social committee for their co-operation; to the coaches for the amount of work and time given to the coaching of their teams; to the members of the St John Ambulance Brigade for the attention given at all times to injured players; to the Press for the space so freely given for our club news; to the donors of trophies, and to. our numerous supporters for donations and assistance rendered, without whose help we would not have been able to present such a satisfactory balance sheet. The report is signed by the president (Mr A. Corskie) and the secretary (Mr. G. W. McCullough).
