GREYTOWN

OBITUARY. MRS. W. C. SLATER. ("Times-Age” Special.) The death occurred at the Greytown Hospital on Sunday morning of Mrs Elsie Mira Slater wife of Mr W. C. Slater, of Ahikouka, at the age of 54 years. Mrs Slater entered the Greytown Hospital a few days ago, and appeared to be progressing favourably, but later took a serious turn. An operation was performed but she gradually sank. Mrs Slater was a wellknown resident of the Wairarapa. Before coming to Grey town, Mr and Mrs Slater resided in Carterton. Mrs Slater was a prominent croquet player. As secretary of the Greytown branch of the League of Mothers, she built the membership up by her diligent work. She also took a prominent part in the work of St. Luke’s Church. Possessing a beautiful garden and being a keen horticulturist, she was on the committee bf the Greytown Horticultural Society. The late Mrs Slater was held in very high esteem by a large number of friends for her many personal qualities. Her husband and son, Stanley (of Wellington) will have the deepest sympathy of their friends in their sad bereavement. Personal Items. Mrs G. Green, of Napier, is a present staying with her parents, Mr and Mrs A. Finn, Main Street. Mr Alex Johnson is confined to his bed. Mr Johnson ricked his back and has been ordered to take a rest.

Mr and Mrs T. Bloor, of Christchurch, are staying with Mr and Mrs H. G. Carter, McMaster Street.

Miss M. McAlpine, of Martinborough, is relieving at the Greytown branch of the W.F.C.A. A collision occurred at the intersection of Wood and West Streets yesterday morning between a light motortruck, driven by a Maori boy, Mattie Pirere Ahea, and a bicycle ridden by a boy Russell Fairbrother. The bicycle was badly damaged but the boy got off with a few minor cuts.
