BOWLING MATCH.

CARTERTON BEAT DANNEVIRKE.

("Times-Age" Special.)

Carterton played a game with Dannevirke and two rinks from Greytown who played for Dannevirke to make five rinks, at the weekend. "The result was in favour of Carterton on the aggregate by 31 points, the total points being Carterton, 224; Dannevirke, 193. The visitors were welcomed by Mr W. C. Robertson, president of the Carterton Club, who said that he hoped the visitors would have an enjoyable ; day. At the conclusion of play, Sergeant Dyer, on behalf of Dannevirke, thanked the Carterton players for- their hospitality and the ladies for the afternoon tea which they had greatly enjoyed. Cheers were exchanged and a vote of thanks passed to the ladies. The following were the results of the games:— Morning play: Campbell, Williams, Simmonds, Barber (s) beat Wood, Curtis, Kilgour, Vile (s), 16/15; Kilmister, Kruse, Beale, Whyte <s) beat. Paterson, Johnson,' Kartern, Dyer (s), 23/13; G. Steven, Nicholson, DeLacey, Harris (s) lost to Fairbrother, Dillon, Nicholson, Burkenshaw (s), 14/23; Foster, A. Thompson, R. Thompson, Riggs (s) beat Keen, Brighton, Gandell, Lowe (s), 30/7; Spooner, Matson, Robertson, W. Hart (s) beat Burden, Brunton, Dennes. Higgison (s), 16/14. Afternoon games: Higgison beat Harris, 37/25; Dyer beat W. Hart, 32/12; Vile lost to Whyte, 18/22; Lowe lost to Barber, 21/22; Burkenshaw lost to Riggs, 12/40. Arrangements are being made for a return visit to Dannevirke at the next weekend, when it is hoped five rinks will make the trip.

TRAP SHOOTING.

F E. ALLEN WINS E. H. HAWKER’S CUP.

There was a large attendance at the clay bird shooting competitions held on the Carterton Racing Club’s grounds on Saturday, under the jurisdiction of the Carterton Gun Club. Rain fell during the afternoon but this, did not dampen Ine ardour of the shooters. The shooting was excellent. The arrangements were well carried out by the club’s energetic secretary, Mr V. Gustofsen. The trap was in charge of Mr Joe McKnight and his work brought forth warm praise on the part of the shooters. The following is the result of matches fired: —

21 bird sweepstake and cup competition: D. McKenzie (Masterton) shooting from the 19yds. mark broke all his “clays” with the first barrel. F. E. Allen (Masterton) 11yds. also shot a possible. These two shooters divided first and second sweepstake money. Jack McKenzie (Masterton) 2fiyds., R. Buick (Masterton) 19yds., R. J. King (Masterton) 16yds., and R. Fuge (Kaiwaiwai) 12yds. broke 20 “clays” each and divided third prize money. There were 22 competitors. As a result of this shoot F. E. Allen won E. H. Hawker’s Cup, shooting 20 and 21, best two to count put of four shoot's. 12 bird sweepstake: H. K. Smith (Masterton) 20yds., Jim McKenzie (Masterton) 19yds., Joe Udy (Carterton) 15yds. and F. E. Allen (Masterton) 13vds. broke 12 “clays” each and divided" the prize money. Twenty-six competed. A sweepstake, first miss out, was won by Jim McKenzie (Masterton) 20yds., who got 13 birds. R. Williams (Carterton) firing from the 11yds. mark was runner-up with 12 birds. Weather permitting the club will hold its wind-up shoot next weekend.

TENNIS MATCH.

CARTERTON v. KELBURN.

The return match between the Car'terton and Kelburn clubs was played on the Carterton courts on Saturday. A very pleasant time was spent although play was hampered by the rain. The event is an annual one and with it goes a cup. Last year the cup was won by Kelburn and on this occasion Carterton proved the victors by six matches to three, 87 games to 67. The cup was presented to Mr R. W. Roydhouse, president of the Carterton club by Mr J. M'. A. Hott, and in doing so the latter congratulated the Carterton players upon their excellent plav. He thanked the Carterton team for its hospitality and the ladies for the way in which they had entertained the visitors on the courts. When Carterton next visited Kelburn his club hoped to be able to reciprocate to, the full the hospitality received in Carterton. Mr Rovdhouse, in accepting the cup on behalf of Cartertun players, said ’.that he hoped many more such enjoylable games would be played. Cheers were given for the ladies. The following are the results:— Keedwell and Taverner beat J. A. McGill and L. J. Berry, 6/1, 6/1; Roydhouse and Fisher beat Dr Park and A. W. Hawley, 6/2, 6/1; Dwane and Candy beat Tyndall and Little, 6/4, 6/4; Goodin and Steel beat Castles and Hott, 6/2. 6/2. „ , ' Keedwell and Dwane lost to Park and McGill, 5/6. 6/1; Fisher and Steel v. Tomlinson and Berry (unfinished); Roydhouse and Taverner beat Castles and Little, 6/2, 6/2: Worsfold and Goodin beat Tyndall and Hawley, 6/5. 6/5: Candy and Lawrence lost to Barraud and Blake, 2/6, 0/6. Taylor and Brown- v. Tyndall and Castles (unfinished); Keedwell and Roydhouse lost to Park and Blake, 2/6, 5/6: Taverner and Lawrence v. McGill and Barraud (unfinished);- Fisher and Worsfold v. Berry and Hawley (unfinished); Dwane and Steel v. Tomlinson and Hott (unfinished). PARTY AT CLAREVILLE. ART UNION DRAWN. There was a large attendance at the euchre party and dance held in the Clareville Hall on Saturday night.

Prizes for the euche were won as follows:—Ladies: Miss Betty Bousted, 1; Mrs Harold Hodder, 2. Men: Mr F. Daysh, 1. The dance music was supplied by Mrs Keith Rew and the Pipe Band. Mr Stan Hall was M.C.

During the evening the Art Union was drawn under the supervision of Jhe police. The proceeds are to bade-

voted to providing a rest room for the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union and the Wairarapa Scottish Pipe Band uniforms. The winners were:— Miss Mary Herrick (Parkvale), 1; Mr A. Blatchford (Carterton), 2.

A competition for a cake presented by Mrs T. McKenzie was won by Mrs Knox Smith. The sucking pig donated by Mrs W. Abbott was won by Mr Malcolm Thompson.
