WINDOW DISPLAYS

COMPETITION WINNERS

TWO CONTESTS DECIDED.

MANY PUBLIC ENTRIES RECEIVED

As was announced in Friday’s issue of the “Times-Age,” the official decision of Mr R. B. Forsyth, judge of the window display competition sponsored by those Masterton retailers participating in the recent “Ideal Homes” campaign, was kept under seal until this morning. The results have now been announced by Mr Geo. Daubney, chairman of the committee, as follows:

W.F.C.A., washing machine window, 107 points, 1. Hugo & Shearer, furnishing window, 101 points, 2. N. R. Cunningham, Ltd., refrigerator window, 100 points, 3. Woolworths, general home display, 99 points, 4.

Displays highly commended were as follow: W.F-C.A., sheeting window, 98 points; Macduffs bridal window, 96 points; C. E. Daniell, Ltd., wallpaper window, 95 points; J. Bouzaid, model kitchen, 94 points; Community Stores, provision window, 93 points; C. Smith, Ltd., furnishing window, 92 points. Mr. Forsyth has stressed the point that the displays were judged from the angle of their selling appeal, a factor not necessarily taken fully into consideration by the public who competed in that section of the competition.

Ninety entries received from members of the public all placing the windows in the order estimated to be that chosen by the judge. Many entrants did not specify which window was chosen in the event of one firm having several displays. The two prize-win-ners, however, each placed the first three windows in the correct order, differing only on the fourth placing. The first prize of £2 2s has been awarded to E. Holmwood, Mt. Bruce Road, Masterton, whose placing was: — W.F.C.A. washers, 1; Hugo & Shearer, 2; N. R. Cunningham, Ltd., refrigerators, 3; J. Bouzaid, 4. The second prize of £1 1/- has been awarded to. Mrs J. Welwood, c/o 104 South Road, Masterton, whose placing was: W.F.C.A. washers, 1; Hugo & Shearer, 2; N. R. Cunningham, Ltd., refrigerator, 3; C. Smith, Ltd., 4. Since the display of J. Bouzaid scored more points than that of C. Smith, Ltd., the decision was given to the entry placing Bouzaid’s window. The result of the earlier window competition will not be announced till later in the week.
