FISHERMEN’S TALES

It is regrettable that the great writers of "Tales” in poetry and prose seem to have shied from the inclusion of anything in the nature of an "Angler’s Tale,” states the “New York Times.” the account is balanced in the end, however. For from time to time some museum or scientific society records a catch as “record” and the lucky sportsman wins recognition for his story. Last September a sawfish was landed from a pier in Galveston, Texas, and the American Museum of Natural History has recently listed its weight of 736 pounds as a world record. Yet even for this 141-foot take, testimonial assistance of a restaurant man, a tackle dealer and the fishing editor of “Field and Stream” was required in order to negotiate the listing. Apparently no new order is presaged. Fish stories and fairy tales will continue in the same category, differing only in the fact no one even asks —much less demands — that you believe a fairy tale.
