GERMANY ANO SLOVAKIA NAZIS GRANTED MILITARY ZONES. PROVISIONS FOR PROTECTION OF COUNTRY. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright BERLIN, March 24. It is announced that the treaty between Germany and Slovakia contains five clauses as follows: — (1) Germany takes over the protection of Slovakia's political independence and territorial integrity. (2) For the purpose of maintaining this protection German forces are granted the right to erect and occupy military bases in specified zones in which military and sovereign rights will be exercised by Germany, Slovakia granting the necessary ground and agreeing to the provisions for the German troops being free of Customs duty.

The specified zones in which fortifications may be erected include the eastern frontier of Slovakia and a line following the western border for almost its entire length, but not including a small triangle north-west of Bratislava in the extreme south-west of Slovakia.

(3) Slovakia will organise her own military strength in close co-operation with Germany. (4) Slovakia will conduct her foreign policy in close co-operation with Germany.

(5) The treaty will be effective immediately and will be valid for 25 years.
