PIRINOA
WOMEN’S INSTITUTE. ANNUAL MEETING. ("Tirr.es-Age” Special.) The annual meeting of the Pirinoa Women's Institute was held in the Memorial Hall. There was a large attendance of members, including visitors from adjacent branches, and the meeting was presided over by the president, Miss Hanlon. Prior to the election of president, Mrs Staveley referred to the good work done by the retiring president, Miss Hanlon, whom she regretted, was not seeking re-election. Miss Hanlon had occupied the position since the Institute was formed and the success of the branch was due to the untiring efforts she had given so willingly during her term of four years. The speaker also referred to the unanimity among members of the Institute which, in her opinion, was due to the. able leadership of their retiring president. A motion of thanks to the retiring president was carried by acclamation. The following officers were elected: President, Mrs Spicer; secretary, Mrs Priest; librarian, Mrs Sutton; treasurer, Mrs Lovegrove; committee, Mesdames Mclntosh, Crosbie, Carter, McLeod, Staveley, Gray and Misses Hanlon and Scrimegour. Misses Hanlon and McKenzie presented the Institute with a beautiful banner, the gift being greatly appreciated. The points prizes for the year were won by Mrs. S. Mclntosh and Miss Hanlon.
Mesdames Crosbie (past secretary), Lovegrove (treasurer) and Sutton (librarian) who have rendered valuable services to the Institute, were the recipients of tokens of esteem from the branch. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Mclntosh, Sutton and Misses McKenzie and Scrimegour. Personals. Mrs H. Cowan, Kohunui is visiting relatives in Feilding. Mesdames Hemi, Watson and Enoka, who have been at Hastings, have returned home.
Mrs Riwai, who has been staying with her son for the past six months, returned to her home in Christcbhurch today.
Miss Drummond, who was the guest of Mrs McMaster, Korari, for a few days, has returned to Masterton. Mr Percy Haligan, who was in Wellington for the week-end, has returned home.
Mrs R. H. McMaster is visiting the Bay of Islands district.
Mr and Mrs Stanton, who were the guests of Mr and Mrs Clark, Tuhitarata, have returned to their home at Motueka. '
Mr and Mrs F. Lovegrove have returned home from a motor tour of the South Island.
Mr. Thomas Bubb, who has been manager of the Whatarangi Station for some years, has relinquished the position. He has acquired a property at Martinborough. It is understood that Mr Charteris will take over the managership of the Whatarangi Station. Mr and Mrs Saunders, who have been staying in Featherston, have returned to their home temporarily. Mr and Mrs Edwards, England, are at present the guests of Miss N. McDougall.
• Mr Ama Turei recently met with a painful accident at Whatarangi when he accidently inflicted a nasty scalp wound as .the result of the slasher he was using- catching a vine when he was scrub-cutting. Treaty of Waitangi. A petition is being largely signed by the natives of the Wa'irarapa v in conjunction with other parts of the Dominion for presentation to-Parliament praying to the Government for the recognition of the terms, of the Treaty of Waitangi.
