TO MEET NAZI THREAT
AIRPORTS AND SQUADRONS PLANNED. PRECAUTIONS TO BE TAKEN AGAINST SABOTAGE. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. (Received This Day, 12.35 p.m.) OTTAWA, March 23. In the House of Commons, answering a question, the Minister of Defence, the Hon lan Mackenzie, stated that Canada would immediately meet a Nazi threat of a German air base on Iceland. The defence programme was being revised so as to concentrate on the Atlantic seaboard. Steps would be taken at once to establish new airports and powerful squadrons. In addition, plans had been completed to guard every Canadian industrial plant, bridge and highway from sabotage. In the event of war, the Minister of Justice, the Hon Ernest Lapointe announced that the Government • was considering a thorough inquiry into the subversive activities of organisations directed and financed from foreign lands.
