LICENSING CHARGES
CONVICTIONS AT GREYTuWN COURT. MASTERTON MEN INVOLVED. (“Times-Age” Special.) A surprise visit by Constable A. Gregor to the Grey town Hotel on- r. Sunday night in February had its sequel in the Greytown Magistrate’s Court yesterday when a series of charges in relation to breaches of the Licencing Act were preferred against A. J. Allison, the licensee, and three Masterton men.
Senior-Sergeant G. A._ Doggett appeared for the Police and Mr C. C Marsack represented the defendants. Mr H. P. Lawry, S.M., was on th< Bench. Norman Alexander Carswell was convicted and fined £2 and 10s cost: for having entered licensed premises while being a prohibited person. A charge against Carswell of having beer found on licensed premises was with drawn.
Kenneth Carswell was convicted am discharged on a charge of having beer found on licensed premises, but he war fined £2 and 10s costs having ac companied Norman Carswell to licensed premises knowing him to be a prohibited person. E. F. Gorringe was fined £2 and 10: costs for having accompanied N. Carswell to licensed premises knowing hire to be a prohibited person, and he was convicted and discharged on a charge of having been found on licensed premises.
A charge of having permitted N. A. Carswell to remain on licensed .premises knowing him to be a prohibited person was preferred against Arthur John Allison and he was convicted and fined £5 and 10s costs. Charges against Allison of having sold liquor to the three defendants in question and of opening premises for the sale of liquor were dismissed.
