SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS

(To the Editor.)

Sir, —I am in receipt of the old age pension getting £4 17s 6d weekly. Would you be kind enough to tell me through your correspondence column what my position will be after April 1? Have I to register and pay the Is in the pound or just go on as at present?—l am. etc., “INQUIRER." Enquiries in official circles this morning show that all persons are required to register under the Social Security Act. No tax (Is in the pound) is payable on any benefits received, such as the £4 17s 6d mentioned by our correspondent but the Is in the pound tax has to be paid on any income other than that received by way of benefits.
