TAXI LICENCES

RESTRICTION IN MASTERTON. APPLICATION REFUSED. “It is our duty to licence taxis and we feel that we can do the job without being told how to,” remarked the Mayor, Mr T. Jordan, when referring at last night’s meeting of the Borough Council to a petition from nine taxi drivers asking the council to refrain from issuing further taxi licences in Masterton. The, letter was received. At an earlier stage in the meeting the council refused to grant an application by a Masterton resident for a taxi licence because it was the general policy of the Government to restrict the number of taxis. It was decided that in future medical certificates required by taxi drivers must be supplied by local medical men.
