BOWLING

BELL SHIELD. FIRST MATCH OF SEASON.' (Notes By “The Bowler”). The first match of the season, for the Bell Shield, was played on the Masterton Club's green yesterday afternoon, between the holders, J. Skeet, Hughes, Nielsen and C. Perry (s), of the Masterton Club, and the challengers, Osborne, VZilde, Thompson and Southey (s), of the Park Club, and the result was a win for the challenr gers.

The green played slow after the rain, and the game throughout was most aggressive. there being many “dead heads.” On the sixth head, the scores were: Park. 16; Masterton, 4; and on the eleventh head, the Park was still leading by six points. The Park still retained the six points lead, on the fourteenth head: Park, 17; Masterton, 11. On the seventeenth head, the score board showed, Park, 21; Masterton, 14; and the final result was Park, 25; Masterton 17. MASTERTON CLUB. COLTS COMPETITION. The result of the “colts” competition was a win f6r J. V. Gordon, who went through the competition without a loss. Gordon is a much improved player this season, and should next year be well up in the senior grades. I congratulate “Jack” on his win, as he was handicapped on the scratch mark.

PARK CLUB. ' TEAMS TO PLAY MASTERTON. The following have been selected to represent the Park Club in matches to be played on the Masterton green on Saturday next. All games will start at 1.30 p.m.: — Wall Cup: Taylor, Ferguson, Leigh, Smith (s). ' Friendly games: Drummond, Burke, Roff, Carr (s); Finlayson, Dixon. Brown, Shearer (s); Fenton, Jenkins, Spackman, Thompson (s); Emerson. Simpson, Gibson, Southey (s). Any player unable to attend is requested to advise the selector, Mr A. E. Kilgour (’phone 1728) as early as pos-, sible.
