VIEWS ANNEXING OF CZECHOSLOVAKIA. NOT RECOGNISED. NO LEGAL BASIS EXISTS. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 12.40 p.m.) WASHINGTON. March 21. The United States, in a formal note to Germany, made public today, has refused to recognise the legality of the Eirsorption of Czechoslovakia. The text of note is as follows: "To the German Charge D’Affaires. Sir, I acknowledge receipt of your Note of March 17 which, by direction of your Government, you informed the United States Government of the terms of a decree, issued on March 1G by the Government of the Reich, announcing assumption of protectorate over the provinces of Bohemia and Moravia. The United States Government has observed that, these provinces now are under the de facto admintration of German authorities. The United States Government does not recognise that any legal basis exists for the status so indicated. The views of this Government regarding the situation as well as regarding related facts were made known on March 17. and enclosed herewith, for thb information of your Government, is a copy of the statement in which those views are expressed. - (Signed) Sumner Welles."
