Mrs Stunell, of Papawai, is the guest of Mrs Brodie of Lower Hutt. Mrs N. Beetham, Masterton, is staying with Mrs I. Ramsden, Pohangina. Mrs. A. Latimer has returned to Masterton from a visit to Wellington. Mrs Dymock and Miss Dymock, Wanganui, are staying with the Misses Langdon, Tinui. Miss F. Andrew, of Epsom, is the guest of Mrs Frank Petersen, of Essex Street, Masterton. Mrs S. Cundy, of Featherston, is visiting Picton, where she is the guest of Mrs H. C. Madsen. Mrs D. P. Loasby was a Wellington visitor to Greytown during the weekend. ; Mrs E. W. Pearce, who has been staying with Mrs H. M. S. Major, Masterton, has returned to Wellington. Mrs Quin, of the Club Hotel, Carterton, who has been, seriously ill in the Lewisham Hospital, Wellington, is now making a rapid recovery. After visiting Nelson and Blenheim, Sister W. Pinkerton, Bannister Street, Masterton, arrived at Wellington yesterday by the Cook Strait Airway’s plane and later went to Masterton by rail-car.
A party of relatives and intimate friends gathered on Sunday afternoon at the residence of Mr and Mrs W. J. H. Haase, Hamilton Road, Hataitai, to celebrate the ninetieth birthday of Mrs Haase’s mother, Mrs J. B. Penny, Lower Hutt, who arrived in New Zealand in the sailing ship New Era, in 1853. Mrs Penny spent most of her married life jn the Wairarapa, arid has for the past 15 years made her home with her daughter, Mrs. WatsonMunro, Lower Hutt. Mrs Penny’s husband predeceased her 24 years ago. Numbers of congratulatory telegrams were received from friends in the Dominion also many flowers and gifts. A son-in-law, Mr A. N. Palmer, Island Bay, in toasting Mrs Penny’s health, spoke of her great kindness and recalled pleasant memories of her life. Mr H. R. Penny, OkaiaWa, Taranaki, replied on behalf of his mother, after which Mrs Penny cut the birthday cake, on which there were 90 candles. ENGAGEMENT. CAMERON—MELTON. The engagement is announced of Lorraine, daughter of the 4ate Mr and Mrs E. Melton, Wellington, to Keith, younger son of Mrs and the late Mr R. D. Cameron, Solway, Masterton.
