GREYTOWN
BOROUGH COUNCIL. MONTHLY MEETING'. ("Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Greytown Borough Council was held last night there being present the mayor (Mr A. W. Horton) and Councillors W. A. Tate, I. Blissett, A. Stuart, G. F. Eagar, H. C. Trotman, H. J. Nightingale, E. Balfour, H. J. Farley. The action of the Works Committecin appointing Mr J. Lyford foreman on three months’ probation was confirmed by the Council. When the Cemetery Report came before the Council Councillor H. C. Trotman asked when the fence in front of the Catholic part of the cemetery was to be renewed. He also expressed the opinion that this work should be done by an expert workman and not with subsidised labour.
A letter from the Swimming Club asking that barbed wire be put round the top of the fence was held over till the next meeting.
The Town Clerk reported the receipt of £47 10s 2d for heavy traffic fees for the quarter. Councillor Stuart asked the Mayor to give a ruling for the guidance of the dog tax collector. He stated that several owners of dogs refused to pay the' full fee for pets claiming that their dogs were used as rabbiters. The Town Clerk explained that it was for the Council to act if a dog owner signed a false declaration and not for the dog registrar. The Council agreed to level and tar seal round the big tree by the Bank of New Zealand if the Beautifying Society had the fence removed back. The Mayor stated he understood that the Bank authorities were agreeable to this. Baby Show Result. In the St Luke’s Garden Party Baby Show Lois McHardy was first in the 6 to 12 months class.
