FEATHERSTON
BOWLING CLUB. WORKING BEE. ("Times-Age” Special.) What has to be actually seen, to be believed, has been accomplished by a working bee of the Featherston Bowling Club. This working bee at, the weekend removed between 20 and ’3O tons of soil from the green and all with five barrows and eight shovels. A rotary hoe cut the top of the green an inch and a half deep all over and the soil so loosened was removed by the workers. So what was last week a fair bowling green is now a very rough square of land awaiting developments whereby it will be made —or it is hoped that it will be—into a bowling green that Featherston will be justly proud of. This week it is probable that the
square will be worked up, levelled, rolled and sown. Great credit is due to the members who have carried out the work. Perhaps the success attained this year by the club members has been an incentive to get the work done. They believe that if a better green were at. their disposal, greater records could be achieved. The club won the Booth Cup for the second year in succession, and two members were successful in securing the champion of champion pairs. Last year the champion of champion rink came from the Featherston Club and the club’s rink is to play in the final this year for the same honour. '/ REVIVAL OF FOOTBALL. NEW CLUB FORMED. A meeting of the Featherston Football Club was held in the pavilion at the sports ground last night, when there was an attendance of between fifty and sixty supporters. The meeting was very ably conducted by the president, Mr E. Perry, who at the outset, said that they had met to go into the matter of forming a new club, and here was the place to talk, and not at the street corner, he said. The result was that some candid talk took place. There was a as to the number of vice-presidents to be elected, some desiring only a few, while others were in favour of numbers, up to 20 or 25. Finally it was resolved, on the motion of Mr Hector Benge, that five only be elected. Mr Benge stated that by appointing the large number suggested, for the sake of the subscription, it made the position cheap. The following officers were elected: —Patron, Mr Ben Riberts, M.P.; president, the Rev J. T. Holland; vice-presi-dents, Messrs J. W. Card, J. Moriarty, S. Batchelor, L. Lambess, C. Buck; secretary, Mr J. Fraser; assistant secretary, Mr H. Campbell; treasurer, Mr Norman Carey; club captain, Mr Harry Piper; management committee. Messrs H. Candy, C. Bambry, Noel Euder, Hector Benge, M. McKenzie; Delegates to combined sports, Messrs A. Tait and J. Moriarty; delegates to Wairarapa Rugby Union, Messrs Lambess and Benge; coaches, Messrs McKain and P. Habile. It was left in the hands of the management committee to decide what grades the team would play in. Mr
Batchelor stated that nothing definite could be decided until the players had been seen in action. The subscription will be 7s '6d senior, 5s junior, other grades, 2s 6d, nonplaying member, ss. It was mentioned that several medals and a cup, belonging to the old club had not be collected. The secretary was instructed to attend to the matter. It was decided to hold practice matches every Tuesday and Thursday nights, commencing tonight. The first game is to be played on the first Sunday in April, with a view to deciding the grades. It was left in the hands of Messrs Tait and Moriarty to get in touch with the sports body in regard to the cutting the grass in the playing field. The keeness shown by the large number of young men present augurs well for good football in Featherston during the coming season. Dance and ihuchre Party. The dance and euchre party held in Pihautea Hall on Saturday night was well attended. Mr S. Pound and Mrs C. Ten shots at 300, 500, 600, 800 and 900 yards were fired, and scores were as follows: —L. G. Benton. 43. 47, 45, 43 34, 220; W. Johnston, 47, 47, 40, 42, 42, 212; A. G.
