SATURDAY’S GAMES
JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP. Only one junior championship game was played on Saturday when St. Patrick’s Old Boys defeated Martinborough at Martinborough by 6 wickets. Old Boys won against Red Star A by default, the latter players being engaged in the annual Red Star Club’s match. Carterton forfeited to College juniors. St. Patrick's Old Boys v. Martinborough.—The following were the scores in this match: —-St. Patrick’s Old Boys, first innings. 103 (Donnelly 43, Howard 17. Green 12; Power 4 for 34. Johns 3 for 30, George 2 for 8, Hancox 1 for 2 A ) Second innings. 4 wickets for 52 (Howard 23, Flynn 20; Todd 2 for 21. Power 2 for 31). Martinborough, first innings 62 (Hancox 18, George not out 16, Hamilton 12: Brice 6 for 42, Beals 2 for 8, Hunt 1 for 9). Second innings. 74 (Hamilton 24, Murphy 16; Corlet 7 for 19, Brice 2 for 50, Hart 0 for 0).
RED STAR CLUB ANNUAL MATCH The annual club match between the Red Star seniors and the Red Star juniors was played at the. College grounds on Saturday, and was won by the seniors by three wickets. The scores were: Juniors, 175 (Peers 17, Bell 12, Cross 11; F Hoar, 8 for 12, N. Hoar 8 for 25, Coleman 3 for 2). Seniors: seven wickets for 178 (N. Hoar 42, Friend, not out, 24, O'Kane 16, W. Peterson 14, Lambourne 13). At the annual dinner in connection with the match, Mr Len Matthews (president) occupied the chair and there was an attendance of over forty including the umpires, Messrs. F. Dohnt and Turner. An apology was received from the patron, Mr Charlie Perry, who was unavoidably absent, and to whose splendid service in the interest of sport in the Wairarapa generally and the Red Star Club in particular was referred to by speakers. The following were among the toasts honoured: “The King,” “The winners of the match” (Mr A. Bell —Mr G. Peterson); “Officers of the Club” (Mr Wilmhurst —Mr B. Iveson); “The Umpires” (Mr W. Peterson—Mr F. Dohnt). A most enjoyable time was spent.
A speaker at the annual .dinner of the Red Star Cricket Club on Saturday night stated that the fact that so many young players were associated with the club—one was a schoolboy in the vicinity of eleven years of age, who played in the juniors—was the best tribute that could be paid to the club; that it played the game for the game’s sake, that it kept a strict eye on the younger members of the club, and insisted that the conduct of its players generally was such that parents could with confidence allow their sons to play with it. At the 'annual dinner of the Red Star Cricket Club on Saturday night Mr Frank Hoar was presented with the ball, suitably engraved, with which he performed the hat trick for the Red Star seniors in a recent championship match. Mr Gordon Peterson, in making the presentation, referred to Mr Hoar’s long association with cricket in the Wairarapa, his many sensational bowling performances, and his winning of the.Wairarapa bowling average on several occasions It was pleasing to be able to record the fact, said Mr Peterson, that Mr Hoar’s son, Newman, had won the . senior bowling average for the Wairarapa for the present season (loud applause). Mr F. Hoar suitably acknowledged the gift. DOUBLE CENTURY TO TINDILL. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A brilliant double century by E. W. Tindill, the .New Zealand representative wicketkeeper-batsman, was the outstanding feature of the concluding day’s play on Saturday of the second round of. the Wellington Cricket Association’s knock-out _ competition. Tindill was unbeaten with 201 after giving a solid display of confident batting. It was the highest individual score of the season in the senior
grade. , ~ Several exciting finishes were witnessed The unbeaten teams at the conclusion of the two rounds are Kilbirnie and Wellington, who will fight out the final. _____
